چکیده

This article concerns a phenomenon of elementary quantum mechanics that is quite counter-intuitive, very non-classical, and apparently not widely known: a quantum particle can get reflected at a potential step downwards. In contrast, classical particles get reflected only at upward steps. As a consequence, a quantum particle can be trapped for a long time (though not forever) in a region surrounded by downward potential steps, that is, on a plateau. Said succinctly, a quantum particle tends not to fall off a table. The conditions for this effect are that the wave length is much greater than the width of the potential step and the kinetic energy of the particle is much smaller than the depth of the potential step. We point out how the topic is accessible with elementary methods, but also with mathematical rigor and numerically. PACS: 03.65.-w, 03.65.Nk, 01.30.Rr.

On the Paradoxical Aspects of New Quantum Experiments

Two recently proposed quantum experiments are analyzed. The first allows to find an object without “touching” it. The second allows to teleport quantum states, transmitting a very small amount of information. It is shown that in the standard approach these experiments are in conflict with the intuitive notions of causality and locality. It is argued that the situation is less paradoxical in the...

Pre- and post-selection paradoxes and contextuality in quantum mechanics.

Many seemingly paradoxical effects are known in the predictions for outcomes of intermediate measurements made on pre- and post-selected quantum systems. Despite appearances, these effects do not demonstrate the impossibility of a noncontextual hidden variable theory, since an explanation in terms of measurement disturbance is possible. Nonetheless, we show that for every paradoxical effect whe...

Quantum Mechanics and the Mechanism of Sexual Reproduction

There are many claims that quantum mechanics plays a key role in the origin and/or operation of biological organisms. The mechanism of the meiosis, mitosis and gametes life cycle from the view-point of quantum for human has been represented. The quantum gates have been used to simulate these processes for the first time. The reason of several hundred sperms has been explained in the male too

Imaginary Numbers as Quantum Superposition States and Time- like Dimension

The paper deals with the imaginary numbers from the perspective of mathematics, physics and philosophy. The core proposition is that the unitary imaginary number i is a double value number with the assigned not one but two different numbers at the same time, These numbers are proposed be: 1⁄2 and –1⁄2, fact of which is written in the so-called i-equation: i = [1⁄2, –1⁄2] or i = [–1⁄2,1⁄2].
